ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Matthew and some of you may know me as the creator behind The Southerner's Northern Garden on YouTube. I grew up in Alabama at the foothills of the Appalachia where the woods were thick, the night sky sparkled, and the tea was sweet. I moved north to Southwest Ohio in 2016 to follow my dreams and started a garden along the way. I love all things that bloom. I guess you could say I'm wooed by the bloom if you want to be poetic. This is my journey. Come along, and remember to be a light. Together, let us bloom.

A definite repeat for next year is this large grouping of @provenwinners Truffula Pink Gomphrena along the sidewalk. Plus, isn’t this Rising Sun Redbud the absolute cutest right now? There are so many panicle hydrangeas available on the market, but what makes the perfect one for your garden? I’m always on the hunt for the next best panicle and in that search I have some prime requirements. These are the features you start with to find the perfect panicle hydrangea: Supertunia Vista Bubblegum doing its thing in the heat! @bloomineasy Starfield Reblooming Hydrangea catches my eye EVERY time I walk by it. Such gorgeous pointed petals and foliage with blooms that fade incredibly nicely. It also appears to be an excellent rebloomer so far in my macrophylla trials. Spring reblooming over our harsh winters will be the ultimate test next year. Let’s face it - it’s been a tough year. Record drought, record rainfall, record heat, pests, disease, and so on. If it’s your first year gardening and you didn’t succeed, let me tell you that you did. You tried. And that’s what matters. Every year will bring new challenges. But, you know what? That’s how you grow. I planted a @firsteditionsshrubstrees Sapphire Surf Bluebeard this morning and it was immediately covered with pollinators of all kinds. I love the color, size, and, of course, supporting the pollinators this time of year. Evergreens of the @pwcolorchoice trial gardens. I kindly asked this mantis to strike a pose for you in front of the Supertunia Vista Bubblegum. Enjoy this fierce look. VERY confidential!
